Ride Down East
Destinations Along The Way

This ride contains so many beautiful nooks and crannies you may want to take some extra time to take it all in. From start to finish this ride covers approximately 306 miles sticking to just the main route but, I’m willing to bet you’ll have a hard time doing just that. The ride contains some of Maine’s most beautiful and hidden treasures, from the lush forests and rocky outcroppings along the airline on Route 9, to the many quaint and welcoming fishing villages coming down US Route 1. As you ride be sure to explore the many hidden peninsulas, scenic harbors and blueberry fields. Make sure to sample all of the regions foods you can. Try some of Helens world famous Strawberry pie in Machias, to a lobster’s and steamed clam dinner along the shore in Eastport. Traveling down US RT. 1 you can’t miss the chance to visit the eastern most point in the United States at Quaddy Head light in Lubec.

If you’re looking for some excitement on the Fourth of July, head down Rt.187 and check out the “Worlds Fastest Lobster Boat Races” in Jonesport Beals or you may just want the peace and quiet of the Schoodic Point peninsula on the Rt.186. This loop is filled with rocky shore lines that lead you to quiet places like Winter Harbor or Prospect Harbor, where you’ll enjoy the sound of the surf, the smell of salt in the air and the beauty of sea gulls flying overhead.

In any case it’ll be a ride you’ll always look forward to because there was always that one place you didn’t get the time to explore!
